INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the web edition of the "Great Anealan Newcomers Guide" and to the Society for Creative Anachronism, we are a group of reasonably normal people who get together to do un-normal things.

You will find all sorts of people and situations within the Society and hopefully this book will enable you to ask the right questions or maybe just let you know who to ask.

Before we continue I would like to touch on behaviour at events, the requirements we have for attendance at events are fairly simple, and they are :-

WEAR AN ATTEMPT AT 600 to 1600AD CLOTHES,BEHAVE IN A POLITE, COURTEOUS MANNER,AND FOLLOW THE REASONABLE AND LAWFUL DIRECTIONS OF SOCIETY OFFICERS.

We are trying to create an ambience/ atmosphere in which we may enjoy a medieval/ renaissance historical fantasy. To some this may only be a costume party, to others it is a chance to act out a part or a persona they have lovingly created. The requirements we have for attendance enable these diverse views to co-exist, generally everyone wants to have fun, and so a little bit of consideration/ co-operation goes a long way. The officers of the society are there to provide venues and help with activities, generally they can also provide an unbiased and/ or helpful opinion.
The HOSPITALLER is tasked with looking after you, the newcomer. If you have any difficulty, or you are confused by something, talk to them, if the Hospitaller cannot help you, they will know who can.Lastly, you are the only person who can dictate your level of participation, a lot, a little or anything in between, all are fine.
